Martha Pullen Show 2011

Posted by sewmichelle on

I know I promised I would post from Martha Pullen but technical difficulties made it impossible ~ sorry.  I can tell you that I had the time of my life.  If you have never gone to a Martha Pullen Show, and there is one in your area, I highly recommend it.  For those of you that don't know what a MP show is........she gathers a massive group of teachers ie; Luveta Nickels (Junk Jeans lady), Linda McGhee (zippers and handbags), Peggy Sagers, Hope Yoder, Evy Hawkins (A Bit A Stitch),  Barb Callahan, and (of course my favorite) LORALIE together to teach all of us about the newest and coolest things in the sewing world.  These are just a few of the names of teachers that were there.  Then, there were fantastic vendors set up in the main hall selling fabric, gadgets, machines and books at incredible show prices.  It was awesome!   3 days of nothing but thinking, talking and living was my kind of heaven!

On the first night of the show, Martha hosted a fashion show.  It was unlike any fashion show I had ever seen.   All the vendors/teachers walked down the runway showing off their pretties.  At the beginning of the show, Martha warmed up the crowd with a demonstration of putting on Spanx.  I don't think there was a dry eye in the house!  She should be a stand up comedian she is so funny!

Like most of you, I have only seen Martha Pullen on her tv show.  I know from watching that show she is a very talented lady but this weekend I learned what a very giving, caring person she is too.  I arrived on Thurs morning at 7:30 and she was at the entrance of the convention center greeting everyone as they came into the building.  I have never seen someone of her status be so hands on and so giving of herself.  She never turned away an opportunity to hug someone or to sign an autograph or to swoon over their outfit they were wearing.  She is truly a remarkable person and such an inspiration to those us in the sewing world.  Thank you Martha for a wonderful weekend!

I did teach some classes while I was at MP and had a terrific time!  It was an incredible experience and I want that thank Kathy Southward of Sew Southward Bernina for allowing me the opportunity to represent her company this year. My spiral notebook cover went over well.  All the ladies seem to like the idea of the quick and easy project.  I hope I inspired the ladies to go home and make a bunch for birthday and Christmas presents.

I am not sure what I am explaining in this picture but thought you might get a kick out of it.....LOL

I was  coached by Kay Whitt of Sew Serendipity (who is fabulous!) this weekend to come out with some patterns for my tote bags.   So look for them to come out soon.  Thanks Kay for the pep talk!

This wonderful weekend would not have been possible without one person who was there by my side through it all.  She was behind the scenes taking care of me, setting up my classroom, dragging my projects and equipment to and from, making sure I had everything I needed and never once complained.  I don't know what I would have done without you, thank you Marylin for being such a great friend!  I love you!

  • Whose embroidery is that inside the bag you are holding in the picture with Martha? I have been trying to find a similar design and have had no luck.

  • Hello Bettie,

I am so glad you enjoyed the class at Martha Pullen. That was so much fun for me too. I am working on a pattern for the screen tote bag. I hope to have it out soon. Please subscribe to my blog and I will keep you updated on my creations.

When you go to Elliott’s, ask for Ann and she will help you with the screen. She knows exactly what you are looking for.

  • I loved your class at Martha Pullen. Planning to make the notebook covers for gifts. Great ideas. Do you have a favorite pattern for the tote bags—especially the mesh bags? Plano Eliotts does not carry the mesh so guess I will make a trip to Mesquite soon! Thanks for a great class and ideas!
